When I think of rum I think of pirates, so that was the inspiration for this image, with the worn poop deck and the skull and crossbones lurking softly and quietly behind.  It was a last minute inspiration, but it works.

This pour is a limited release of Redemption Rye, rested in rum casks for a unique finish.  When I first opened it, the rum was really not to be found, but then, I wasn’t comparing it to their regular product which hadn’t rested in rum casks, either.  I really should do that.

That being said, when I went back to this bottle around a week later, I liked it even better than I did on that first pour.  It still wasn’t a heavy rum finish, but there was a little more of it there and I found it to be quite tasty.

One thing’s for sure – it’s not to be compared in any way to the very sweet Angel’s Envy rye, which is also finished in a rum cask.  That’s a lot sweeter pour, with graham crackers and butterscotch being the highlight notes, and couldn’t be farther from the higher rye notes of the Redemption Rye rum cask finish.

If you’re a lover of ryes, this one is worth picking up.  I’m not sure it’ll “wow” you, but I can tell you that you’ll enjoy it for what it is.

Cheers!
