Because it’s St. Patrick’s MONTH, I’ve been putting the focus on Irish whiskeys and bourbons made by Irish immigrants.  Tonight I profiled the Redbreast 12 year, which was very earthy, with almost a granola overtone, in that there were notes of toasted grains, nuts, fruits and vanilla.

It’s only 80 proof, so it’s very smooth.  It’s been aged in Spanish Sherry casks, and the blend’s youngest whiskey is a 12-year, which is pretty cool.  It’s rumored to have a mashbill of 50% malted barley and 50% unmalted barley, and that’s it.  So, that explains the cereal and granola notes I got from it.

I’m not a big Irish whiskey lover, but it’s March and that makes it okay.  I can’t say this will be a go-to of any kind of me, but I like it enough, and I’m happy it’s in my alcohol arsenal.
